Sydenham Park Grassland Revegetation

This project site was covered in Serrated Tussock in 2009. The aim was to replace this noxious weed with native grass before adding other herbs including threatened species like the Arching Flax Lily,  Dianella sp. aff. longifolia (Benambra), and then a woodland planting. The project currently covers 15 hectares, but will expand over the next few years.

Although this site was accidentally sprayed out by another contractor, some seed still hadn't germinated and luckily a reasonable amount of native grass has established.

In late October the grasses are flowering. Cool season (C3) grasses, Rytidosperma spp. (Wallaby Grass), Dichelachne crinita (Long Hair Plume Grass) and Austrostipa spp. (Spear Grass) have established. Warm season (C4) grasses will hopefully germinate this Spring and Summer.
