Seed Supply
We are stocking seed from more sites around Melbourne and Victoria every year so check to see if we have the species you need from your area, or if your application doesn’t require local provenance seed (e.g. domestic lawns, parks etc far from remnant vegetation) we can supply many species of native grass seed. Contact us to see what’s available now or to arrange for harvesting or sourcing of your seed requirements.

Site preparation
The results of any seeding operation depend on three factors:
- Weed control
- Rainfall
- Soil type
Weed competition is usually the only factor we can directly influence with revegetation projects. Even where irrigation and soil improvement are possible, weed competition is usually the major threat to the success of a seeding project. Weed control may need to commence anywhere from six months to two years before seeding for revegetation works depending on the type and quantity of the weed population of the sowing site. Smaller areas like lawns and small landscapes can generally be sown with much less – if any – detailed preparation, depending on the condition of the site.

Seeding
Flora Victoria uses various seeding techniques depending on site conditions. Larger areas can be seeded with our Native Grass Seeder. This machine can sow a much larger area with the same amount of seed than techniques like thatching, making it ideal for open spaces like suburban parks, golf courses or roadsides. If you are interested in direct seeding with native grasses, contact us for more information.

Maintenance
Many initially successful native grass-seeding projects have failed because a lack of ongoing maintenance has allowed weeds to re-invade. We have the knowledge and experience to maintain areas we sow to your standard for as long as required. Contact us for more information about our maintenance services.

Revegetation
We specialise in high diversity revegetation using many understorey species. These projects usually require some degree of site preparation to control weeds and / or to establish a groundcover of native grasses. Usually an area we have seeded with native grasses can be planted with other species a year after sowing. Planting of ground flora can be very dense depending on the vegetation type required, and the management of these areas can be very specialised depending on the site. Contact us for more information about our revegetation services.

Weed Control In Remnant Vegetation
Flora Victoria has extensive experience carrying out weed control in high quality remnant Grasslands and Grassy Woodlands. Our plant identification skills ensure that remnant indigenous plants we protect are in good hands. We use backpack sprayers when spot spraying herbicide in high diversity areas to enable us to spray precisely and minimize off target damage. In some areas careful hand weeding is more appropriate. When it comes to high quality remnant vegetation, we will use the most effective but environmentally sensitive methods available. Contact us if you have questions about the management of weeds in your remnant vegetation.
